i decided to live the most subdued, quiet, ordinary life i could.
chinese classmate
i’ve never had a Chinese national studying in the same class as me, until about 8 weeks ago.
while i managed a very average seventy-five for the final test, he really took us to the cleaners with a near-perfect score of ninety-eight.
be very afraid.

i’m too nervous to sleep. but before ac milan vs liverpool for the european crown, allow me to quote the immortal bill shankly:
If you are first you are first. If you are second you are nothing.

In the new computer age the proliferation of typefaces and type manipulations represents a new level of visual pollution threatening our culture. Out of thousands of typefaces, all we need are a few basic ones, and trash the rest.
Grey’s Anatomy S3E25
You do not get unlimited chances to have the things we want… Nothing is worse than missing an opportunity that could change your life.
remarkable dialogue
Ando flips through the yellow pages looks under “sword repair”. He dials a number.
Ando: Hello. Yes. Do you fix ancient samurai sword?
Man: Yeah.
Ando hands the phone over to Hiro.
Hiro: My name is Hiro Nakamura. The fate of the world is in your hands.

i so want to do this the next time i call for pizza.
in the event of something happening to me
some weeks ago, i got my term insurance plans in order in the event of something happening to me.
should i die, my mother will be well taken care of.
but something needs to be done about the body, i guess.
i like to be cremated. at the cremation, some Christians should come and sing the chorus of awesome God, like the way michael w smith does (it’s very short so sing a few times). and if i am a rich man, someone should use the money to get morten harket to come and sing it.
and someone should bring a tape player and play madonna’s true blue (it has to be tape, no CD. buy on ebay).
that’s all folks.
the women in san jose
The women that are available tend not to be attractive. They also tend to have a variety of emotional issues. Or they are super busy and stuck on themselves.
Henry James
We work in the dark – we do what we can – we give what we have. Our doubt is our passion and our passion is our task. The rest is the madness of art.
presentation zen and benjamin zander
for someone who works on presentations regularly, presentation zen is an awesome resource and inspiration.
you can only imagine how fantastic it was to see Benjamin Zander mentioned in pz’s latest entry. the art of possibility is one of the best motivational books i have read. Zander is a conductor and writes with the heart and soul of an artist; yet you don’t feel like its all airy-fairy, nor feel his ego seep through the pages.
i watched the video in the entry and i cried and i was at work. Zander was working with musicians and he was talking about performing and contribution. as quoted in the entry:
“This is the moment — this is the most important moment right now. Which is: We are about contribution. That’s what our job is. It’s not about impressing people. It’s not about getting the next job. It’s about contributing something.”
and if you go a bit further, you’ll hear:
“Because in contribution, there’s no better and that’s all.”
(what that means to me is that in whatever you do, don’t think about it as a performance which emphasizes improvement, but think of it as contribution, which emphasizes people)
he got me there.
that’s all.
category b
Mark Albion, Author of the book “Making a Life, Making a Living” cites a study by Srully Blotnick:
“A study of business school graduates tracked the careers of 1,500 people from 1960 to 1980. From the beginning, the graduates were grouped into two categories. Category A consisted of people who said they wanted to make money first so they could do what they really wanted to do later after they took care of their financial concerns. Those in category B pursued their interests first, sure that the money eventually would follow.
What percentage fell into each category? Of the 1,500 graduates in the survey, the money-now category A’s comprised 83 percent or 1,245 people. Category B risk takers made up 17 percent, 255 graduates.
After 20 years, there were 101 millionaires in the group. Only one came from category A, 100 from category B.
o genki desu ka
after japanese class yesterday, the Voice text me and said she was in the hospital for a blood test and had rashes on her face.
i asked her to take care and i couldn’t resist saying:
oh, i guess then you are not genki desu (I’m fine, in Japanese).
her reply:
isaiah… of course i’m not genki desu. I’m more likely to be dengue desu (dengue fever is a flu-like virus disease).
as a friend, i think i should have enjoyed this a little less.
singaporean men can’t make it
singaporean men expecting a casual, relaxed read of today’s sunday times are in for a nasty surprise.
ang mo men and women and highly qualified local women are attacking local men left, right, center:
- “She’s (Lorna Campbell) not attracted to local (Singaporean) bachelors – ‘it’s a physique thing’, as she puts it.”
- “Once, my sister’s Caucasian friend said: ‘I can never understand why any Caucasian woman would want to marry a Singapore guy because you get the shorter end of the stick, literally’,’ he says.”
- Dr Rachel Tay – “Most Singaporean guys are very stereotypical in that they just want to do well in school and get a good job, that’s it. There’s more to life than that.”
i don’t know. i find singaporean women very stereotypical too. they want to do well in school, get a good job, like to complain about singaporean men and visit every fucking mango/zara store on the planet.

I can live with doubt and uncertainty. I think it’s much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong
