tongue and a bit of mom

milou_tongue_sep07.jpg

while i was fooling around with milou in an enclosed area at the village, someone smashed his face right into a supporting pillar of blk 14.

he later told his friend: i was looking at the dog.

i would have added handsome.

strip

“To strip an idea down to its core, we must be masters of exclusion.” -
Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die,” by Chip Heath and Dan Heath.

some readers have made known to me that:

  • i should be more straight to the point when i blog and they rather not read between the lines
  • my entries are too short
  • there is something going on between me and the iceman

let me respectfully say that:

  • i don’t write for robots
  • i want to be a master of exclusion
  • the iceman is my brother-in-mourning and we’re both, in every sense of the word, ungay

tenga part 1

Posted in Personal by isaiahlim on September 24, 2007

please stop reading if you’re offended by sexual material.

i stumbled upon tenga today reading an ad about it in a men’s magazine.

i went to their website but there wasn’t any information. the british lover was online and she found the japanese link before i did.

we had a marvellous time reading.

first up (don’t read too much into the words here), tenga sells sex toys for men and they look like this:

the copywriter on the website isn’t murakami, but he has a way with words.

the introduction for the device above:

a “deep” sucking sensation made possible by special structure.

what delightful language.

there is a passage in the FAQ that made me laugh so hard (again, take it at face value) and yet feel much shame:

At the first stage, we will export TENGA (same-size as Japan) to Asia, and then after we develop large size products, we will start to export TENGA to the rest of the world.

oh dear me.

there is so much on the website worth writing about that there will be part 2 to this post. probably a part 3 as well, i’m afraid.

i heart beautiful language (among other things).

oriume

Posted in Film by isaiahlim on September 22, 2007

there is a scene in oriume where the family is having dinner and the senile grandmother picks up a common-plate of chicken (i think) and started eating from it. this brought about a collective gasp from the audience where they were many japanese.

there is nothing superior in my cinematic-going experience than having a japanese collective gasp – it’s more than shock, there is a whiff of guilty pleasure and a wonderful this-bird-has-flown-isn’t-it-good sensation.

the first music video i purchased from the iTunes music store is RHCP’s under the bridge.

that has to mean something right?

iTunes music store

Posted in Personal by isaiahlim on September 22, 2007

the iTunes music store has surely taken a long time to come to Singapore.

but thanks to a website like this, you can buy an gift certificate, go to the iTunes music store to redeem and set up a membership (no credit card info needed and use the address of any hotel in the US).

quite easily done.

my first download was the season 3 premiere of prison break which was free.

my  first 99 cents that i spent was a new version of sting’s fields of gold which you can’t find in any store. i first heard it from studio 60 on the sunset strip and it’s simply beautiful.

who is more damaged

the iceman’s (who has since privatised his blog due to the suspicious eyes of invisible enemies) advice for me for the trip to NYC was Don’t Hold Back.

my reply was equally cryptic: My Will is Erect.

a man writes to his dead wife in the Straits Times:

I have told you I love you in front of your niche more times than I have done in our 22 years of marriage.

I realised that both of us were very reserved persons who did not like to express our emotions.

From now on, I do not want to hold back anymore.

And I cannot accept something like Chijmes as a conservation project. You must understand what the building meant to the people before. It’s like turning the old Supreme Court into a food court.

the nick hornby slam

Posted in Personal by isaiahlim on September 12, 2007

a day before i leave new york, nick hornby is having a meet-the-author session at barnes and noble. i plan to go, pick up his latest novel, politely ask for his autograph, and scold him for writing high fidelity and ruining my life.

i will then tell him i’m malaysian, but please come to singapore.

that’s the plan anyway.

Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007)

I care about giving people a place where they can go to enjoy themselves and to begin to live again. To the man you have to give the spirit, and when you give him the spirit, you have done everything.

when pavarotti finished singing at 2 mins 57 secs of this youtube video, there are 3 seconds of such profound emotion that my words, in this lifetime or the next, shall always fail to give it justice.

suffice to say, i will rather live these 3 profound seconds than spend a lifetime with an effortless and prosperous gospel.

less than 30 days

Posted in Personal by isaiahlim on September 6, 2007

when it comes to laundry, i have been a handjob person all my life, a stranger to those big vibrating machines.

i will need lessons because in less than 30 days, there will be domitory-living, noisy young people and crime from sea to shining sea.

note to self: bring an open mind.

Albert Schweitzer

Posted in Quotations by isaiahlim on September 6, 2007

The one essential thing is that we strive to have light in ourselves. Our strivings will be recognized by others, and when people have light in themselves, it will shine out from them. Then we get to know each other as we walk together in the darkness, without needing to pass our hands over each other’s faces, or to intrude into each other’s hearts.
