  1. Do you have any idea of what he means by this? I saw a writer competition ask for submissions of work only if it defies genre, but I wasn’t sure what that would constitute so I just wondered if you had an idea?

  2. Yes, I do. A genre is a type of fiction (or any form of art). We might say Harry Potter is children’s fiction. But clearly, it’s more than that. Twilight encompasses both horror and romance. Readers may prefer to stick with a particular genre. For example, some people love horror and shun romance. But writers are coming up with books that transcend a single genre and neil gaiman thinks it’s a good thing. So do I.
